SHALOM MAHMOUD
Mahmoud Khalil has been directly involved in glorifying terrorist groups and promoting radical anti-American narratives.
The White House confirmed on Tuesday that former Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil is undergoing deportation proceedings after distributing materials promoting Hamas.
President Trump remarked that he firmly supported his removal from the country.
Khalil was detained on Saturday by Department of Homeland Security agents, marking the beginning of a broader effort to address concerns about antisemitism on college campuses.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the situation in a press briefing, emphasizing that Khalil had been granted the privilege of studying in the U.S. but had instead chosen to align himself with Hamas, a group responsible for attacks on civilians.
According to Leavitt, Khalil was involved in organizing demonstrations that created a hostile environment for Jewish students and circulated flyers bearing Hamas symbols and messaging.
Subsequent reports revealed that some of the materials distributed by Khalil included Hamas imagery and slogans about “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood,” the Hamas-led attack on Israel that resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people on October 7, 2023.
Some materials also featured images of Hamas leaders and slogans appearing to justify violence.
Trump’s Reaction and Policy Stance
Later in the day, Trump addressed Khalil’s case while reviewing Tesla vehicles with Elon Musk outside the White House. Expressing his frustration, he called for the expulsion of individuals engaged in similar activities.
“These people don’t love our country. They’re agitators, they’re troublemakers, and we don’t need them here,” Trump declared. “I watched the footage, I saw exactly what he was doing, and we should send him back. He and the rest of them—they don’t belong here.”
Trump also criticized Columbia University’s handling of the situation, asserting that the institution’s leadership had allowed an environment hostile to American values to take root.
